Families draw inspiration from Operation Sindoor, India’s military strike after the Pahalgam terror attack
Kushinagar (Uttar Pradesh), May 12 — In a unique display of patriotism and tribute to India's armed forces, 17 families in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar have named their newborn daughters Sindoor, inspired by the Indian Army’s recent military action, Operation Sindoor.According to Dr RK Shahi, Principal of Kushinagar Medical College, all 17 girls were born on May 10 and 11 at the medical facility and have been named after the operation that retaliated against the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam.
Operation Sindoor: A Symbol of Courage
Operation Sindoor was launched by the Indian Army on May 7 to dismantle nine terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir. The mission was in response to the deadly terrorist attack at Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, where 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed. The military action resonated deeply across the country, especially in Kushinagar, where families chose to immortalize the name in a powerful way.
"Sindoor Is Now an Emotion"
Archana Shahi, a resident of Kushinagar who gave birth during this period, explained her choice:"Following the Pahalgam attack, many married women lost their husbands. The Army’s response was a proud moment. Sindoor is no longer just a word—it’s an emotion. That’s why we named our daughter Sindoor," she said.
Her husband, Ajit Shahi, shared that the couple had already decided on the name before their daughter’s birth. "This word is an inspiration for us," he added.
Families Celebrate Valor and Remembrance
The sentiment was echoed by others in the district. Madan Gupta from Padrauna said his daughter-in-law, Kajal Gupta, felt strongly about commemorating the day through her newborn’s name."This way, we will not only remember the operation but also celebrate this day," Gupta noted.
Vyasmuni, a resident of Bhathahi Babu village, believes naming his daughter Sindoor will instill a spirit of bravery. "When she grows up, she will understand the meaning of this word and serve Mother India dutifully," he said.
Priyanka Devi from Padrauna has also chosen the same name for her daughter, joining the collective tribute observed in the district.
A Symbolic Wave of Patriotism
Dr Shahi confirmed that this widespread naming trend reflects how deeply Operation Sindoor has impacted the local populace. "It’s not just a name, it’s a message of strength, sacrifice, and national pride," he said. The naming of these newborns has become a poignant reminder of the nation's collective spirit and the enduring legacy of its defenders.
