
Mumbai, March 7 Veteran actress Neena Gupta reminisced about her early career, specifically the first television serial titled "Dard," which she acted in and produced back in 1993.
Sharing this memory on Instagram, the actress discussed how "Dard" marked a significant turning point in her career. She also shared a glimpse of the show, with its title track playing in the background.
"The first serial I acted and produced in 1993 for Doordarshan," Neena captioned the post.
The show, featuring Neena alongside Kanwaljeet Singh, Shagufta Ali, Manohar Singh, and Jatin Prithviraj Kapoor, told the story of a wealthy, unmarried woman named Radha, who has a mysterious past. The serial depicted Radha's emotional struggles in both her past and present, and how she coped with them.
Neena is known for her work in both independent and mainstream films. She won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in "Woh Chokri" and "Uunchai."
She has also starred in several television films, including "Lajwanti" and "Bazar Sitaram," the latter of which won her the National Film Award for Best First Non-Feature Film of a Director. She also appeared in "Saans" and hosted the show "Kamzor Kadii Kaun."
She has also appeared in several international films, including "Gandhi" (1982), where she played Mahatma Gandhi's niece, and in Merchant Ivory films such as "The Deceivers" (1988), "Mirza Ghalib," and "Cotton Mary."
She also made an impact in Indian parallel cinema, including "Mandi," "Rihaee," "Drishti," and "Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda." These performances further solidified her presence in Indian cinema alongside her contemporaries like Rekha, Shabana Azmi, Smita Patil, and Dimple Kapadia.
In 2018, she starred in the comedy-drama "Badhaai Ho" as a middle-aged pregnant woman, which marked a career resurgence.
