
April 7, New Delhi — A group of 25 fishermen from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, who had been detained in Sri Lanka, safely returned to Chennai after being released by Sri Lankan authorities.
The fishermen had set out to sea on February 15 in two boats for fishing. While at sea, they allegedly crossed the International Maritime Boundary Line and were apprehended by the Sri Lankan Navy.
Their boats were seized, and the fishermen were taken to Sri Lanka. Following coordinated efforts by both the Central and State governments, the Sri Lankan government released all 25 fishermen on March 31.
