Three More Arrested Amid Statewide Crackdown on Alleged Anti-National Activities
Guwahati, May 13: The Assam government has intensified its crackdown on individuals accused of treason, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announcing the arrest of three more people in connection with alleged anti-national activities following the Pahalgam terror attack. With these latest arrests, the total number of individuals detained in the state has reached 56 since the April 22 attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 people.
The three individuals arrested have been identified as Lalchan Ali from Dhubri, Samir Ali from Lakhimpur, and Rakib Hussain from Karbi Anglong, Sarma said in a late-night post on social media platform X.
Earlier, AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam was arrested on sedition charges for allegedly defending Pakistan's role in the Pahalgam terror attack. His arrest had stirred political discourse across the state."Any act of sympathising with the enemy is an act of treason. Cracking down on anti-national elements — 56 such elements are now behind bars," the Chief Minister stated.
The arrests underscore the state government’s firm stance against any expression perceived as support for entities hostile to India, especially in the wake of major terrorist incidents.
