Mumbai, April 2 Eighty dome lights and three sirens, used on private and unauthorized vehicles to make them appear as VIP vehicles, were confiscated by the Mumbai traffic police during a 48-hour special drive that ended on Thursday, an official said.
The dome lights confiscated are in red, blue, and yellow colours, he said.
"These had been installed on top of private and unauthorized vehicles to make them appear as VIP vehicles. We had been receiving frequent complaints about this issue. During the drive, teams under ACPs of South Central and Bandra divisions inspected numerous vehicles. Eighty dome lights and three sirens were seized," he said.
"Strict action has been taken against the respective drivers/owners under the Motor Vehicles Act. In serious cases, a recommendation will be made to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to cancel the vehicle's registration, and a criminal case may also be registered," the official added.
Citizens are not supposed to install any unauthorized flashing lights, dome lights, or sirens on their vehicles, the official said.
