Mumbai, April 8 Filmmaker Subhash Ghai reminisced about his experiences learning from the legendary actor and filmmaker Raj Kapoor about filmmaking on Wednesday.
Sharing a throwback photo on his social media account, Subhash Ghai reflected on Raj Kapoor's philosophy that films should be made with passion and dedication, rather than simply for financial gain.
He wrote, "The most important thing I learned from the great filmmaker, Raj Kapoor, was to make your film with your whole heart and soul, not just for money, and to celebrate your success with others – that's what I call celebrating life."
Subhash Ghai added, "He told me when he and Krishna attended my film "Karma's" golden jubilee party, they blessed me and my wife, Mukta Rehana Ghai. It was a wonderful moment that I cherish."
The photo, shared by the filmmaker along with the caption, appears to be from the golden jubilee event of Ghai's film "Karma."
In the photo, a young Subhash Ghai is seen posing with Raj Kapoor and Raj Kapoor's wife, Krishna Raj Kapoor.
Subhash Ghai's wife, Mukta Ghai, is also seen in the photo.
Speaking about Raj Kapoor, the filmmaker, often hailed as the "Showman of Indian cinema," left behind a lasting legacy through his iconic films like Awaara, Shree 420, Sangam, Bobby, and many more.
His legacy has been carried forward by his sons, Randhir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, and Rajiv Kapoor, as well as his grandchildren, Karisma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Ranbir Kapoor.
Raj Kapoor was the son of legendary actor Prithviraj Kapoor and the brother of Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor.
His daughters-in-law, Neetu Singh and Babita, were also prominent actresses of their time.
For those unfamiliar, Raj Kapoor was known for his opposition to women in his family working in Bollywood, and was considered a normal member of the Kapoor household.
Following this norm, Neetu Singh and Babita left their successful careers to marry Rishi Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor, respectively.
Karisma Kapoor broke this norm, excelling in Bollywood and becoming one of the top actresses of her time. Kareena Kapoor followed suit.
Raj Kapoor passed away on June 2, 1988, at the age of 63, after reportedly suffering from a severe asthma attack that led to complications, including cardiac arrest.
