JAMMU, MARCH 26: Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, chaired a meeting to review and discuss measures taken to prevent bird hazards around the Jammu Airport.

The meeting was attended by the Commanding Officer of the Air Force Station Jammu, JK & L, the Director of Urban Local Bodies Jammu, the Deputy Commissioner of Jammu, the Commissioner of JMC, the Secretary of the J&K Pollution Control Board, Jammu, the Director of the Airport Jammu, and other concerned officers.

The meeting discussed various issues that cause birds to gather around the Airport, including the dumping of garbage and dead animals.

The Divisional Commissioner instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Jammu to issue orders prohibiting the open dumping of garbage and the disposal of dead animals and carcasses, which attract bird activity near the Airport. He also emphasized the importance of clearly displaying legal penalties to deter such activities.

The discussion also focused on preventing unauthorized construction of buildings, in addition to fencing the bridges over the Landoi nallah near the Jammu Airport to prevent garbage from being thrown into it.

The Divisional Commissioner also requested an Action Taken report on the implementation of decisions made in the previous meeting to prevent birds from gathering in the surrounding area of the Airport.

It was informed that the Cannt Board and JMC are ensuring door-to-door garbage collection, as well as ensuring that there are no active garbage landfills near the Jammu Airport.
