Los Angeles, February 20 – Hollywood star Timothée Chalamet believes that Gen Z will bear the brunt of educating society on how to live with AI. He also acknowledges that he has a responsibility to support them in this endeavor.
Speaking at a town hall event organized by Variety and CNN in Texas, Chalamet said: "This will be a shared responsibility – although it sounds confrontational, that's not my intention – but it's a dual responsibility. Unfortunately for your generation, I believe it will be you who figure out how to integrate it. There's a huge responsibility for those in positions of power, like myself and Matthew, to ensure that opportunities remain open."
"Some of the roles I landed that helped launch my career might not even be available today."
The actor told college-age students at the event that they have a moral responsibility to implement AI ethically, according to femalefirst.co.uk.
He shared: "I feel a sense of fatalism. It will be up to your generation, and mine to some extent, to figure out how to ethically integrate it, if at all.
"But the part of me that's optimistic feels like this is going to happen. And the part of me wants to say, 'If it allows a 19-year-old to create something they couldn't otherwise because of gatekeepers, then that's good.' But ultimately, it's not my place to say."
Chalamet believes that, ultimately, the movie industry will find a healthy way to embrace AI technology.
He said: "I want to keep the doors open for you guys. But someone will figure out how to do it all at once. I'm fiercely protective of actors and artists in this industry. And whatever is coming, it will come."
