Los Angeles, February 27 – Hollywood actor Jonathan Majors is set to make a comeback in the film industry with a new action movie. The star of "Ant-Man" and "Wasp: Quantumania" was removed from several projects after being found guilty of assaulting his former girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, in 2023.
The actor will be filming his first movie in four years as production begins on the untitled film in South Carolina, according to "Female First UK".
The title, plot, and other casting details are currently being kept under wraps, but the story is reportedly similar to 1980s and 1990s action movies such as "Red Dawn" and "Toy Soldiers," both of which feature groups of teenage boys who must come together to defeat invading enemies.
According to "Female First UK," Kyle Rankin is directing the movie from his own screenplay, with Ben Shapiro and Dallas Sonnier producing for The Daily Wire and Bonfire Legend, respectively.
Majors has been trying to rebuild his career since his assault conviction, and he is also set to star in the supernatural revenge thriller "Merciless," directed by Martin Villeneuve, which was first announced in 2024.
The 36-year-old actor portrayed the villain, Kang the Conqueror, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) before being removed after his conviction, but he suggested last year that he would be keen to reprise the role if the opportunity arose.
In an interview with USA Today, Majors said, "Yes, of course, I would. I love Disney and Marvel Studios."
He then praised his co-stars in "Loki," Tom Hiddleston and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, as well as Paul Rudd from "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," describing how he "loved working" with all three actors.
Majors added, "I loved working with Tom Hiddleston. I loved working with Paul Rudd. I loved working with Gugu Mbatha-Raw. I love the industry so much, and now I'm in a position where I can feel their love and actually express my love for them."
The star of "Lovecraft Country" also felt that it was unfair that he had been ostracized by Hollywood, when Robert Downey Jr., who had previously been arrested for drug possession, and "The Flash" star Ezra Miller, who was charged with disorderly conduct and harassment in 2022, were given second chances in the industry.
Majors said, "I think it's fair that Mr. Downey has been and is being greeted with patience and curiosity, and that Mr. Miller has also received the same treatment. And that they are being allowed to express their creativity and work at that level… I didn't really get that."
Despite the disappointment, the actor emphasized that he would be open to reprising his role as Kang if given the opportunity.
He said, "I love him. I love Kang. If that's what the fans and Marvel want, then let's do it. Hell yeah."
