Los Angeles, March 31 – Hollywood actor James McAvoy has spoken about the changes he has experienced after becoming a father.
The actor has said that he "worries less" and is "more philosophical" after becoming a father again in his 40s, according to ‘Female First UK’.
The 46-year-old actor has a son, who was born in 2010, with his ex-wife Anne-Marie Duff, and he became a father for a second time in 2022 when he welcomed a little boy with his second wife, Lisa Liberati. Now, he has opened up about how his experience of parenting is different now that he's in his 40s.
He told ‘The Guardian’, "Having a child at 42 is definitely easier in some ways. I worry less. I'm a bit more philosophical. But it's also harder, because you're just older and more tired”.
James has also taken on the role of director for his first film, California Schemin', and he admits that taking on a new job in his 40s has also come with a lot of extra stress, which has kept him up at night.
He said, "I'm experiencing all the stress that comes with being a first-time director in my 40s. When we were filming the movie, I would wake up at 2:30 am with the film constantly in my head. That's the time when you're working hard, burning the midnight oil, and going the extra mile, and usually, that's when you're in your 20s”.
According to ‘Female First UK’, the film tells the true story of two Scottish rappers who ditch their accents and pretend to be American in their pursuit of success, and James admits that the plot and the film itself represent an ongoing struggle for Scottish entertainers.
He said, "If I was making this film set in Boston about the same age group, there would be two movie stars (instead of lesser-known actors Samuel Bottomley and Seamus McLean Ross) playing those roles. There are maybe five actors in Scotland who could get their films greenlit, and not definitely, if it's set in Scotland, Gerry, Karen Gillen, me, Richard Madden”.
“And we're all over 35, and only one of us is a woman. I don't know why that is, because we certainly make actors. So where's that 21-year-old movie star?", he added.
