Lakhimpur Kheri (UP), April 11 Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday intensified his attack on the Congress and Samajwadi Party, alleging that both parties opposed the Citizenship (Amendment) Act because they believe in appeasement politics.
"When we celebrate the birth anniversary of the 'Iron Man,' Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Samajwadi Party glorifies Jinnah, the very man who fractured this nation. When we call for unity, they commit the sin of tearing apart the social fabric of society through caste-based divisions," he said.
Adityanath was speaking at an event in Miyanpur, where he distributed land ownership rights certificates to Hindu families displaced from Bangladesh.
"Now, no one can displace you from here, because Modi's Citizenship (Amendment) Act has bestowed these rights upon you. The Congress, the Samajwadi Party, and the TMC opposed this. They argued that this law should not be enacted," Adityanath asserted.
Highlighting the prolonged struggle that unfolded during 2019-20, Adityanath said that for months, the Congress, the SP, the TMC, and their supporters staged protests, creating obstacles to the implementation of this law.
He said that you have become the true owners of your own land. You have now received a guarantee of security, a guarantee of a safe and stable life. And this, too, is Modi's guarantee.
Underscoring that a strong foundation has been laid for the future of their children, Adityanath said, "No one can deprive them of their rights, nor can anyone drive them away. Now, no one will label you a 'Bangladeshi'."
Alleging that when Pakistan was formed, a genocide of Hindus and Sikhs took place, the BJP leader said that during the formation of Bangladesh, once again, a genocide of Hindus occurred.
Claiming that neither the Congress, nor the Samajwadi Party, nor the TMC speak up, Adityanath alleged that this is because those "dying" are "Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, and Jains".
That is why they oppose the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, and divide Hindu society from within, Adityanath alleged.
Targeting opposition, the BJP leader claimed that when a Hindu or a Sikh is "burnt alive in Bangladesh", their lips remain sealed, fearing that the very politics of appeasement, which they have built their entire political careers, might pose a threat to their own existence.
The Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 pertains to granting citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who came to India before December 31, 2014. There were protests in several parts of the country against the passage of this act.
