Following the forest fire that broke out in the iconic Dzukou Valley on January 26, the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force have continued their relentless efforts to contain the blaze that has devastated large portions of the valley.
According to updates from the Kohima District Administration, the southern, eastern, and western ranges of Dzükou Valley in Nagaland have largely been affected by the fire, with only residual smoke reported in some areas.
However, due to the steep terrain and lack of accessible roads in critical zones, ground-based firefighting operations remain extremely challenging.
To prevent further escalation, the Indian Air Force has deployed Mi-17 V5 helicopters equipped with Bambi Buckets for aerial water-dousing operations. The helicopters have been conducting continuous water-dropping missions under difficult conditions, including steep slopes, poor visibility, and rarefied air.
