Leh, Apr 8 In a move to benefit aspiring youth, particularly from border areas, Ladakh Lt Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has directed age relaxation for candidates in the upcoming recruitment of 34 police sub-inspector posts.
With this decision, candidates from areas bordering the Actual Line of Control (ALC) will get an age relaxation of up to seven years (5+2), a Lok Bhavan spokesperson said on Wednesday.
According to the Ladakh Police (Subordinate) Service Recruitment Rules, the prescribed age limit for direct recruitment to the posts of sub-inspector is 18–28 years.
Following this move, candidates up to the age of 35 will be able to apply for the posts of sub-inspectors.
A fresh recruitment notice will be advertised to this effect, the spokesperson said, adding that the decision comes in the wake of multiple representations received from aspirants and social and political groups seeking age relaxation, citing limited recruitment opportunities and challenges specific to the region.
Taking cognisance of the issue, the Lt Governor directed the chief secretary, who also serves as administrative secretary of the Home Department, to examine the matter and initiate appropriate action and provide relief to the deserving candidates.
The decision is expected to provide significant relief to aspirants from ALC areas, enhance their participation in the recruitment process, and promote inclusivity and fair representation in the Ladakh Police, the spokesperson said.
"Candidates from border areas face unique challenges, including difficult terrain, limited infrastructure and restricted access to educational and preparatory resources. It is the responsibility of the administration to ensure equal opportunities for all sections of society, particularly those residing in remote and strategically important regions.
"The UT administration is committed to responsive and inclusive governance, and proactive steps will be taken to address genuine public concerns and ensure that no eligible candidate is left behind due to circumstances beyond their control," Saxena said.
In line with the Lt Governor's directions, the Police Headquarters has been instructed to finalise and notify the Standing Order under Rule 6(3) of the Ladakh Police (Subordinate) Service Recruitment Rules and to issue the revised recruitment advertisement accordingly, the spokesperson added.
