New Delhi, March 30 Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday highlighted growing concerns over AI-generated deepfakes, noting that social media platforms are also increasing their efforts to remove them.
The minister termed deepfakes as a new menace and a threat to society.
"A lot of content resembling deepfakes is emerging. Due to the changes in the AI world, a large quantity of deepfakes have started appearing on social media, across the globe, and on the platforms themselves," Vaishnaw, who is also the minister for IT and Information and Broadcasting, told reporters.
He added that the platforms themselves have almost doubled or tripled their efforts to remove deepfake content.
"It's a new menace, a new threat, that is emerging for society," he said, adding that effectively countering it is very important for society, for every individual, and institution.
