New Delhi, February 17 India aims to foster consensus among global leaders on the proper and ethical use of AI, so that the technology can be utilized for the benefit of humanity while mitigating the harms that may arise from its misuse, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Tuesday.
The minister stated that India expects to see investments of around USD 200 billion in the next two years across the five layers of the Artificial Intelligence stack.
He expressed confidence that 50 deeptech startups will emerge from India in the coming years, noting the commitment of venture capitalists in this sector.
Over the next week, the government will place an order for 20,000 GPUs, with deployment expected within the next six months, he added, while also mentioning that a larger IndiaAI Mission is in the works.
"We will organize a summit where we aim to create consensus among global leaders regarding the proper and ethical use of AI, so that Artificial Intelligence can be used for the benefit of humanity, while we can also mitigate the potential harms that may arise from its misuse," Vaishnaw said.
India has established a framework similar to DPI as part of its India AI mission.
"We are expecting another 20,000 GPUs, in addition to the 38,000 GPUs already available in the common compute layer. In another week, we will place orders for another 20,000 GPUs, which will be deployed within the next six months," the minister said during a briefing on the India AI Impact Summit.
The government is continuously striving to provide high-quality resources to startups, researchers, and students, he added.
"...our government is focused on making technology accessible to the entire large segment of people who want to use it," Vaishnaw said.
