The Gujarat Police has become the first in the country to develop an artificial intelligence-driven tool called 'NARIT AI' (Narcotics Analysis & RAG-based Investigation Tool), aimed at strengthening narcotics investigation and enforcement, according to an official release.
This is the first of its kind AI-based tool to be used by any state police or investigative agency in India. The state of Gujarat is committed to eradicating drug-related crimes, and we are committed to doing whatever it takes to dismantle this network: Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi.
According to the Gujarat Police, NARIT AI is a Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG)-based system designed to assist law enforcement agencies in handling complex narcotics cases under the NDPS legal framework. By integrating legal provisions, case laws, and investigative procedures, the system provides real-time analytical support to investigating officers.
"Previously, investigations were carried out only by specially trained police staff, which led to workload and administrative delays. This tool will act as a 'force multiplier' using innovative RAG-based AI technology and will empower every investigating officer to conduct proper investigations as per the rules, which will lead to a higher conviction rate in NDPS cases."
As this application is trained on historical cases of the High Court and Supreme Court, Bar Acts, and government guidelines, the chances of 'hallucination' are very less and it helps the investigating officer in the investigation in a scientific manner.
