
New Delhi, April 4 Crispin Chettri is set to return as the head coach of the Indian women's football team after the national federation's technical committee recommended his name to succeed Costa Rican Amelia Valverde, whose brief tenure recently ended.
Chettri was in charge during the national team's qualifying campaign for the 2026 Women's Asian Cup in Australia. However, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) appointed Valverde in January to lead the team in the continental tournament, which concluded last month with Chettri becoming an assistant coach.
With India failing to advance past the group stage, losing all three of their matches, the AIFF decided not to renew Valverde's contract, which was due to expire at the end of the Asian Cup. The IM Vijayan-led technical committee recommended that Indian coaches be considered to take Valverde's place.
"The AIFF Technical Committee has recommended Crispin Chettri to be the Head Coach of the Senior National Women's Team for the upcoming two tournaments," a top source in the AIFF told
