New Delhi, February 18 Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a responsible tool designed to enhance human capabilities, not a replacement for expertise, said Jurgen Westermeier, the chief of Airbus India, on Wednesday.

The President and Managing Director for India and South Asia at Airbus also stated that AI should be viewed as a means to improve efficiency and optimize resources in the pursuit of net-zero goals.

He was speaking at a session of the AI Impact Summit here.

Aircraft manufacturer Airbus has a significant presence in India.

Westermeier stated that AI is not a replacement for expertise, but rather a responsible and ethical tool designed to enhance human capabilities.

"Whether through predictive maintenance, optimizing logistics, or streamlining complex engineering, AI allows us to move from abstract ambitions to practical, high-impact results," he said.

He also emphasized that for any industry to thrive in the coming decades, sustainability must be embedded in its design and governance from the outset, and not be treated as an afterthought.

At Airbus, Westermeier said, AI is used as a responsible tool to support its employees.
