Aizawl, March 30 A total of 68 candidates, including 28 women, are contesting in the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) elections, a senior official said on Monday.
Polling for the 19-member AMC will take place on April 21, and the votes will be counted on April 27.

He said that 68 candidates, comprising 40 males and 28 women from four major political parties, are contesting in the upcoming AMC elections.
The ruling Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), the main opposition Mizo National Front (MNF), and the Congress have fielded 19 candidates each, while the BJP has nominated 11 candidates, he added.
Over 2.37 lakh electors, including 1.28 lakh female voters, are eligible to exercise their franchise in the AMC elections.
There are 19 wards under the municipal corporation, and six of them are specifically reserved for women.
In the last AMC elections held in February 2021, the MNF secured a majority with 11 seats, followed by the ZPM with six, and the Congress with two.
