March 23, Aizawl: The event emphasized water conservation as a key element for sustainable development. Chief Engineer (Zone-1), Er. Ngentluanga, highlighted the crucial role women play in managing water within households. He urged all citizens to use water wisely and stressed that protecting forests and natural springs is vital to preventing future water crises.
Addressing the gathering, Central YMA President R. Lalngheta called for better systematic water management and increased rainwater harvesting so that the public relies less on departmental distribution. He strongly urged YMA members to protect the Tlawng River, the region's primary water source, from garbage and pollution, with the same dedication they apply to fighting drugs.
The event concluded with awards presented to individuals and groups for their outstanding contributions to water conservation and pollution prevention. The local observance coincides with the global March 22 UN initiative and the Central Government's recently concluded 'Jal Mahotsav' awareness campaign.
