Aizawl Traffic Relief: Road Widening and Parking Project Announced

Aizawl Traffic Relief: Road Widening and Parking Project Announced.webp

Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma has announced that the State Government is planning to construct parking facilities and widen key roads on the recently vacated Assam Rifles land in an effort to ease traffic congestion in Aizawl.

The Chief Minister made the statement during a question-and-answer session in the Assembly on Monday. He informed the House that the government intends to widen the existing road stretch from Bazar Bungkawn to Treasury Square to improve traffic flow within the city centre. In addition, a proposal is in place to develop a bypass road linking Saron Veng BCM to the area near the main Post Office, which is expected to reduce congestion in the busy commercial areas.

Pu Lalduhoma further highlighted plans to construct designated parking lots within the vacated land to address the acute shortage of parking space in the capital.

Responding to an unstarred question, Home Minister Pu K. Sapdanga stated that the current regulation allowing heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) to enter the city only between 8:00 pm and 7:00 am remains the most effective strategy to manage traffic congestion. He added that the timing and related measures may be reviewed and modified if necessary to better address the situation.
