Lucknow, April 8 Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday criticized the Election Commission over its recent social media post regarding the West Bengal elections, saying that simply removing the ECI would resolve everything.
Reacting to the poll panel's post, Yadav wrote on X, "Just remove the ECI, and everything else will take care of itself," using the hashtag "#EthicallyCorruptInstitution".
Earlier, the Election Commission, in a post on X titled "ECI's straight talk to Trinamool Congress," stated, "This time, the elections in West Bengal will surely be: free from fear, free from violence, free from intimidation, free from inducement, and free from booth rigging and source jamming."
The EC's post came on a day when a meeting between the Trinamool Congress delegation and the full bench of the poll body ended on a contentious note, with Mamata Banerjee's party saying the panel's chief asked them to "go away" at the end of the seven-minute meeting, while the EC accused them of "shouting".
The elections to the 294-member West Bengal Assembly are scheduled to take place in two phases on April 23 and 29.
