Islamabad, April 7 A Pakistani high court ordered authorities to arrange a meeting between the jailed former prime minister, Imran Khan, and his lawyer to discuss the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case.
Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, were convicted in the case on January 17, 2025, and sentenced to 14 years and seven years in prison, respectively.
The two filed appeals against the conviction with the Islamabad High Court (IHC) ten days later.
An IHC bench of Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Muhammad Asif conducted the hearing on Tuesday, during which Khan's lawyer, Salman Safdar, stated that he needed to consult with his client.
In response, the bench directed the jail authorities to arrange a meeting with Khan.
Subsequently, the hearing was adjourned until April 9.
Khan and Bibi are currently incarcerated in the high-security Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. Khan's lawyer and party have complained that they have not been allowed to meet the former premier for several weeks.
The Al-Qadir case was based on charges by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) that Khan's government in 2019 facilitated a deal with property tycoon, Malik Riaz, to use £190 million to settle a penalty imposed on him by the Supreme Court.
The funds were seized by the UK's National Crime Agency and transferred to the Pakistan government.
The businessman allegedly donated more than 57 acres of land for constructing the Al-Qadir University Trust, chaired by Khan and Bushra Bibi.
All the accused in the case, including Riaz, Khan, and Bibi, denied any wrongdoing, stating that the case and charges were politically motivated.
