Alappuzha (Kerala), March 12 Two houseboats were completely destroyed after an LPG cylinder exploded and caused a fire here on Thursday, officials said.

The houseboats – Anahitha and Catherine – were docked at Palathuruthy, and one of them had tourists onboard when the explosion occurred around 6:30 am, according to officials from the Alappuzha Fire and Rescue Services station.

An LPG cylinder on one of the houseboats allegedly exploded, and the fire spread to the nearby boat where the tourists were staying.

Fire service personnel said the tourists escaped unharmed by jumping into the water.

Fire tenders from Alappuzha rushed to the scene, and the fire was brought under control within two hours. Police investigation into the incident has begun, officials added.
