Aligarh (UP), April 21 Amid allegations of forgery and an attempted takeover, Aligarh Muslim University has set up a committee to investigate how control of Aligarh Public School was allegedly sought to be transferred, and how funds were moved without authorization.
The school, established by AMU in 1977, has remained under the university's ownership and administrative control. However, recent developments, including a disputed financial transaction and a claim over its management, have triggered a major controversy on campus.
According to an official release, the investigation will examine the alleged forging of the signature of the then AMU Registrar in July 2025, through which Rs 4.8 crore was reportedly transferred from one bank to another without the university's approval. No funds were withdrawn as the university promptly alerted the bank about the "questionable transaction".
The signature is said to belong to a senior IPS officer, who had served as Registrar on deputation until 2023. University officials said he claimed that the signature on the cheque was forged and that he was no longer associated with AMU at that time.
Despite this, no FIR was filed then, a point that is now being questioned.
