Allahabad HC Considers Cleric's Bail Plea in Bareilly Violence.webp

Prayagraj, March 10 The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday briefly heard the bail plea of Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan in connection with the violence case in Bareilly from last year and posted the matter for further hearing on March 12.

Justice Ashutosh Srivastava passed the order after hearing arguments on behalf of the applicant. Raza is currently in jail in the case.

According to the police, on September 26, 2025, Raza allegedly called upon members of the Muslim community to assemble at Islamiya Inter College in Bareilly.

Despite prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), around 200-250 people gathered and proceeded from Maulana Azad Inter College towards Shyamganj Chauraha.

Police said that the crowd, holding placards and raising provocative slogans, ignored warnings and became aggressive. Members of the mob allegedly hurled stones, bricks, and acid bottles at the police and also fired gunshots.

According to the FIR, two police officers were injured, and the incident caused panic in the area, forcing police to open fire in self-defense after attempts to disperse the crowd failed.
