Allahabad HC Orders Investigation into Planned Acid Attack

Allahabad HC Orders Investigation into Planned Acid Attack.webp

Prayagraj (UP), April 12 The Allahabad High Court has dismissed a writ petition seeking to quash an FIR related to a planned acid attack over a property dispute.

Dismissing the petition, a division bench comprising Justice JJ Munir and Justice Vinai Kumar Dwivedi expressed its extreme displeasure with the state police department over not forwarding the injury reports in time before the matter was taken up by the high court.

The court stated that it cannot go on summoning inspectors and superintendents of police from different districts merely to ensure the timely supply of injury reports.

In an order passed on April 7, the high court made it clear that if remedial action is not taken immediately, it would be compelled to summon the director general of police (DGP), Uttar Pradesh or the additional chief secretary (home), Government of Uttar Pradesh.

The order was passed in connection with a criminal writ petition filed by one Arun Shukla seeking to quash an FIR registered in Prayagraj on December 6, 2025.

The court perused the FIR and found that the allegations pertained to a "dastardly design" to carry out an acid attack.

According to the FIR, Shukla and two others were accused to be behind the act. The prosecution alleged that the attack was planned solely because of a property dispute.

Noting the extreme gravity of using acid as a weapon of offence, the court ruled that the matter requires a thorough investigation and refused to entertain the petition.
