Alappuzha (Kerala), April 11 BJP's former Alappuzha north district vice-president, Bindu Vinayakumar, filed a complaint with the police on Saturday, alleging that the party's Palakkad candidate, Sobha Surendran, had threatened her in connection with accusations of bribery related to voting.

Vinayakumar also alleged that she had also lodged complaints with BJP state president, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, and the party's national president, Nitin Nabin, against Surendran, who is the saffron party's candidate from the Palakkad Assembly constituency in the April 9 elections.

Following Vinayakumar's allegations against Surendran, the BJP confirmed that she had been suspended.

Speaking to reporters here, Vinayakumar claimed that Surendran had called her and accused her of sending money to Palakkad to create a controversy related to bribery.

"Sobha is obligated to prove her allegations. I challenge her to do so," she said.

Vinayakumar claimed that Surendran had threatened and intimidated her over the phone, and she had filed a complaint with the Alappuzha SP in connection with that.

There was no immediate reaction from Sobha regarding this allegation.

The office of the Alappuzha SP confirmed receipt of the complaint and said that it had been forwarded to the concerned police station for further action.
