Thiruvananthapuram, March 18 CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam wrote a letter to the CEC on Wednesday, alleging that the BJP was deliberately attempting to manipulate electoral rolls by facilitating the wrongful inclusion of voters.
In his letter to CEC Gyanesh Kumar, Viswam alleged that the BJP was undertaking such actions with the "malicious intent to influence electoral outcomes in constituencies perceived as favourable".
"Such practices, if true, constitute a clear violation of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, which prohibits multiple or improper enrolments," he said.
"Furthermore, any false declaration made in this regard attracts penal provisions under the Act," the state secretary of the CPI, the second largest constituent of the ruling LDF in Kerala, said.
He requested the CEC to issue "strict and unambiguous instructions" to the concerned authorities to prevent such "malpractices".
"We also urge that an adequate surveillance and verification mechanism is put in place to prevent any such malicious attempts, thereby safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring free and fair elections," Viswam said.
"We look forward to your prompt intervention in this regard," he added.
