Amaravati/New Delhi, April 2 Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday and thanked him for passing a bill in the Lok Sabha seeking to recognize Amaravati as the sole and permanent capital of Andhra Pradesh.
Lokesh said he was thanking PM Modi on behalf of crores of people in Andhra Pradesh.
"It was an honor to meet Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. I conveyed the heartfelt gratitude of crores of people in Andhra Pradesh for the Amaravati Bill being passed in Parliament," he said in a post on 'X'.
"I also shared the extraordinary story of our farmers – who made immense sacrifices, pooling their land and standing resilient through years of uncertainty – to keep the dream of Amaravati alive," he said.
He further said that he sought PM Modi's continued guidance in honoring farmers' sacrifice by building Amaravati into a truly world-class capital.
The bill, which would prevent any future attempt to alter the decision to make Amaravati the sole and permanent capital, was passed in the Lok Sabha by voice vote on Wednesday, fulfilling the aspiration of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, whose party TDP is a key constituent of the ruling NDA.
Once the bill becomes law, Amaravati will be the sole and permanent capital of Andhra Pradesh, effective from June 2, 2024.
