Amethi (UP), April 6 Two men were killed in what is suspected to be a road accident near the Amethi-Durgapur Road bypass bridge in Amethi district, Uttar Pradesh, according to police on Monday.

The deceased, Aniket Singh, 20, and Sujal Singh, 17, were residents of Pure Roshni village in the Korari Girdhar Shah area, they said, adding that the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.

According to police, the two men were returning on a motorcycle late Sunday night when they were critically injured near the bridge in the Amethi area.

Family members rushed them to a hospital, where both succumbed to their injuries.

"The police received information about the deaths around 8:30 am on Monday. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and further investigation is underway," Station House Officer Ravi Singh said.

Singh said that the police were not immediately informed about the incident, as the victims' families took them for treatment.

He added that the exact cause of the accident and the vehicle involved are still under investigation.

Community Health Centre (CHC) Superintendent Dr Saurabh Singh said the injured were brought to the facility in a critical condition and were later referred to the Gauriganj district hospital, where they died during treatment.
