
Chandigarh, February 22 The Punjab Police has busted a cross-border arms trafficking module in Amritsar by apprehending two individuals and recovering five sophisticated pistols from their possession, officials said on Sunday.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were in contact with Pakistani-based smugglers through social media platforms and were facilitating the illegal supply of arms to criminal elements at the direction of the smugglers, they said.
DGP Gaurav Yadav, in a post on X, said that the Amritsar Police has dismantled a cross-border illegal arms module, apprehended two accused and recovered five sophisticated pistols along with 10 live cartridges.
An FIR has been registered at the Cantonment police station in Amritsar under the Arms Act, and further investigation is underway to trace the forward and backward linkages of the illegal arms network, he said.
"The Punjab Police remains committed to dismantling illegal arms trafficking networks and ensuring peace and security across the state," the DGP said.
