Chandigarh, February 23 The Counter Intelligence wing of the Punjab Police claimed to have busted a drug trafficking module in Amritsar on Monday with the arrest of three persons and the recovery of 6 kg each of heroin and ICE (Crystal Methamphetamine) from their possession.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the arrested individuals are Partap Singh, a resident of Ferozepur, Ajaypal Singh, and Jobandeep Singh, both residents of Amritsar.
Besides recovering the narcotics consignment, police teams have also impounded their motorcycle and a scooter, which were being used for transporting the contraband.
The preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested accused, Partap Singh and Ajaypal Singh, were allegedly in direct contact with a smuggler based in Pakistan, the DGP said.
The accused were allegedly collecting consignments smuggled across the border from the fenced area of Atalgarh and Rattan villages here, using drones, he said.
They were also tasked with supplying these narcotics to other parties in the state, he added.
Sharing operational details, the DGP said, the Counter Intelligence wing in Amritsar received specific intelligence that the accused had recently received a large consignment of drugs via drone and were en route to deliver it to their associate, Jobandeep Singh, in Padhri village.
Acting on this information, a police team raided the location and arrested all three suspects along with 6 kg of heroin and 6 kg of ICE, he said.
The DGP said further investigation is underway to establish the backward and forward linkages in this case to expose the full nexus, and more arrests are expected.
