Thane, March 20 The municipal body in Thane, Maharashtra, has unanimously passed a resolution praising the decision to name the upcoming railway station between the city and the Mulund area after the late Shiv Sena leader Anand Dighe, stating that the move reflected the sentiments of the residents.
The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) stated in a release that the Railways had decided to build the station due to the increasing number of commuters travelling between the city and Mulund, in neighboring Mumbai.
"A resolution of appreciation regarding the naming of the new railway station being constructed by the Central Railway between Thane and Mulund after 'Anand Dighe' was unanimously passed during the general body meeting on Wednesday," the municipal body stated.
The estimated cost for the new station is projected to exceed Rs 250 crore. Under the agreement previously established with the Smart City initiative, it was decided that the TMC would bear this specific cost, and the Railways would execute the construction work, it said.
According to the release, Shiv Sena MPs Shrikant Shinde and Naresh Mhaske met with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, advocating that the Railways themselves should bear this expenditure.
Vaishnaw has agreed that the Railways will bear this expenditure and conveyed this decision to Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, informing him that a formal proposal had been submitted to the Railway Board for final approval, it said.
"MP Mhaske formally requested in the Parliament that the new railway station be named after 'Dharmveer' Anand Dighe; subsequently, a resolution regarding this proposal was tabled in the general body meeting and was duly passed," it said.
