Ancestral House Regularization Deadline Extended.webp

Panaji, March 25 The Goa cabinet on Wednesday extended the term of its "Mhaje Ghar" scheme by another year, allowing people to apply for regularization of ancestral houses until March 2027.

Speaking at a press conference, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the earlier deadline was March 2026.

"We have decided to extend the period by another year. This means that eligible individuals can apply until March 2027," he said.

The scheme, launched by Union Minister Amit Shah in October 2025, aims to regularize ancestral houses built on government and community (Comunidade) lands without valid permissions, granting ownership to the inhabitants.

According to official data presented in the legislative assembly, the government has received only 1,200 applications so far.
