
Kurnool (Andhra Pradesh), March 25 The APERC on Wednesday said that the state government has contributed to close a revenue gap of Rs 1,718 crore for the power distribution companies for FY27, which will result in "no tariff increase for any consumer category in the state".
Secretary of the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC), P Krishna, said that three DISCOMs had proposed a total revenue gap of Rs 17,508 crore, but noted that the commission has only approved Rs 15,790 crore.
"The DISCOMs proposed a revenue gap of Rs 17,508.17 crore. The Commission responded with an approval of Rs 15,790.57 crore. The Government of Andhra Pradesh is committed to bridging the estimated revenue gap for the fiscal year 2026-27 and disbursing the approved amounts to the DISCOMs," an official statement, quoting Krishna, said.
Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company Ltd (APSPDCL), Andhra Pradesh Central Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (APCPDCL) and Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Ltd (APEPDCL) are the three DISCOMs.
According to the secretary, the state government's commitment aims to "prevent hardships for end consumers and uphold the government's commitment not to impose additional financial burdens on consumers through increased electricity charges".
As a result of the government's support, he said, "For FY 2026-27, there is no tariff increase for any consumer category in the state. Also, it avoids the imposition of true-up charges for FY 2024-25."
Approximately 1.13 crore domestic consumers will be protected from any tariff increase, Krishna said, adding that nearly 22 lakh agricultural consumers will continue to receive free power supply, among other benefits.
In terms of DISCOMs, APSPDCL proposed a revenue gap of Rs 8,238 crore, but the commission approved only Rs 7,552 crore, followed by APCPDCL proposing Rs 4,097 crore (Rs 4,465 crore) and APEPDCL proposing Rs 5,173 crore (Rs 3,773 crore).
The revenue gap for DISCOMs amounted to Rs 686 crore for APSPDCL, followed by APCPDCL (Rs 368 crore) and APEPDCL (Rs 1,399 crore), totaling Rs 1,718 crore, which the state government has committed to close.
