Amaravati, April 2 Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said on Thursday that Amaravati is now firmly established as the capital of Andhra Pradesh, following the passage of a bill by Parliament.
The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which will prevent any future attempts to change the decision to make Amaravati the capital of the southern state, was passed by the Rajya Sabha on Thursday and the Lok Sabha on April 1.
"Amaravati's status as the capital is now secure, beyond any doubt, beyond any debate, and beyond any change. Amaravati is unstoppable, the heart of Andhra Pradesh, and a source of pride for the nation," Naidu said in a post on 'X'.
The CM thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his support for Amaravati, noting that it was a steadfast commitment to the aspirations of the southern state, from laying the foundation stone on October 22, 2015, to revitalizing its progress and reaffirming its vision on May 2, 2025.
"I extend my sincere thanks to all political parties and Members of Parliament, whose support transcended differences and reaffirmed Amaravati as the sole Praja Rajadhani (people's capital)," he said.
Following the bifurcation, Naidu said that Andhra Pradesh was without a capital, facing many challenges and uncertainties. He said that it was the unparalleled sacrifice, trust, and resilience of the Amaravati farmers that kept this dream alive, calling this moment a tribute to them.
"This decision (the Amaravati Bill) brings long-awaited stability to our state and marks a new era of empowerment, confidence, and progress for every person in Andhra Pradesh," he added.
He also thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The bill will now be sent for Presidential approval.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer congratulated Naidu and the people of the state.
"I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Hon'ble Chief Minister Sri Nara Chandrababu Naidu garu, and the people of Andhra Pradesh on this historic occasion of the passage of the bill by Parliament, which provides statutory recognition to Amaravati as the capital of Andhra Pradesh," Nazeer said in a post on 'X'.
It is a proud moment for the entire people of Andhra Pradesh, he added.
