Andhra Pradesh CM Praises Capital Bill Passage.webp

Amaravati, April 1 Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday described the passage of the Amaravati Bill in the Lok Sabha as a moment of honour for the people.

The Centre passed the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026 in the Lok Sabha, granting statutory recognition to Amaravati as the capital.

"The passage of this bill is a moment of honour. It is a recognition of the sacrifices of farmers and the aspirations of the people. The uncertainty surrounding Amaravati's future has been permanently removed," Naidu said in a post on 'X'.

The chief minister said that Amaravati symbolizes the self-respect of the people of Andhra Pradesh, and granting legal status through Parliament reflects the aspirations of crores after years of uncertainty.

He alleged that the "darkness" of the previous YSRCP regime has ended, calling the development a decisive milestone towards building a "Swarna (golden) Andhra" with renewed confidence.

Naidu asserted that Amaravati is now invincible and will be developed into a world-class city, positioning it prominently on the global map through planned growth.

He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for their continued support to the state.

Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh also hailed the Bill, saying it is a "historic moment" for the people of the state.

He said the decision reflects the fulfilled aspirations of the state's people following years of struggle and uncertainty.

Taking to 'X', he said, "This is the aspiration of five crore people of Andhra Pradesh that the bill is approved -- the victory of Amaravati -- the victory of the people -- the result of struggle."

He noted that the state assembly had unanimously backed Amaravati under the 'One State, One Capital' policy, and the Bill's passage in the Lok Sabha marks pride for crores of people across the state.

Lokesh expressed gratitude to the Centre and supporting parties, saying the decision respects people's wishes and upholds Amaravati's cultural and historical significance as the capital.

According to him, the approval would bring clarity in governance, strengthen investor confidence and accelerate growth while ensuring balanced regional development through decentralized administrative mechanisms statewide.

BJP state president PVN Madhav also welcomed the passage of the Bill in Lok Sabha, calling it a permanent solution to the capital issues arising since bifurcation in 2014 and boosting economic prospects.

Meanwhile, Lokesh is expected to visit New Delhi on Thursday to witness Rajya Sabha proceedings and meet Vice President C P Radhakrishnan.

He is also expected to meet PM Modi and Amit Shah to convey the gratitude of Andhra Pradesh people over the passage of the Bill.
