Archaeological discoveries unearthed in Dima Hasao
Dima Hasao, February 19: The Archaeology Department of the Dima Hasao district, Assam, has unearthed several historical artifacts during a recent excavation. The excavation was carried out in the Embrudisa village in the Dehangi area, where archaeologists discovered handmade pottery fragments, wheel-made pottery fragments, metal implements such as dao and arrowheads, bangles, ornaments, beads, bone fragments, and charcoal remains. A stone jar site has also been identified, which is believed to be a newly discovered archaeological site.
All recovered artifacts have been preserved at the District Museum in Haflong for further study. The excavation was led by Dr. Shringdao Langthasa of the Department of Archaeology, Dima Hasao, in collaboration with the District Museum, Haflong, the North-Eastern Hill University, and the Nagaland University.
One of the most significant discoveries is a miniature metal object shaped like a vessel, which may have cultural or ritual significance. Speaking to DD News, Dr. Langthasa said that charcoal samples and bone fragments would be sent for scientific analysis to determine the age of the site. He added that if confirmed, this could be the first dated discovery from a megalithic site in Assam.
