Arms Act Compliance: Jammu Licence Holders Urged to Respond.webp

The Office of the District Magistrate, Jammu, has issued a public notice directing strict compliance with Section 3(2) of the Arms Act, 1959 (as amended), which restricts individuals from acquiring, possessing, or carrying more than two firearms.

According to the notice, the amended provisions under the Arms (Amendment) Act, 2019 mandate that any person possessing more than two firearms must deposit the excess weapons within the prescribed period in accordance with the law. Upon review of official records, it has been observed that certain licence holders in District Jammu may be in possession of more than the permitted number of firearms. An indicative list of such licence holders has been enclosed with the notice, subject to verification.

In exercise of the powers vested under the Arms Act, 1959 and the Arms Rules, 2016, the District Magistrate has directed that all such licence holders — including those named in Annexure-A — must produce their original arms licenses before the Judicial Section, Office of the District Magistrate, Jammu, within ten days from the issuance of the notice for verification and necessary action.

Licence holders found in possession of excess firearms are required to deposit the same with a proper receipt as per Section 3(3) of the Act and inform the Licensing Authority within the stipulated period.

Failure to comply will result in action under Section 17 of the Arms Act, including the possible suspension or revocation of the license, without further notice.

The order has been issued by Rakesh Minhas, District Magistrate, Jammu.
