Itanagar, April 10 Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt Gen K T Parnaik (Retd), and Chief Minister Pema Khandu attended the premiere performance of "Tiranga in Tawang," a theatrical play by the Monpa Artist Forum, directed by Tsanpa Norbu, in Tawang.

The production vividly depicted the historic expedition of Major Ralengnao "Bethuk" Khathing, whose leadership integrated Tawang into India, culminating in the hoisting of the national Tricolour on February 14, 1951.

According to an official report on Friday, the governor praised the artists for their emotive portrayal of the courage and sacrifices of unsung heroes in securing the region. He hailed Major Khathing as a legendary son of Northeast India and emphasized Arunachal's ethos of peace, harmony, unity in diversity, and patriotism, which has shielded it from militancy.

Khandu, who supported the event, announced plans to tour the play across the state and the nation, highlighting this pivotal chapter in India's territorial history. He referenced the Simla Conference to reaffirm Tawang's integral status within India since time immemorial.

The program on Thursday drew large crowds, including theatre enthusiasts, guests, and children from Tawang town, celebrating the region's patriotic heritage, the report added.
