Arunachal Research: Understanding Lightning with RGU and ISRO.webp

Itanagar, April 2 The Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), ISRO, on Thursday to study lightning phenomena and associated atmospheric processes in Arunachal Pradesh, officials said.

The collaboration aims to enhance scientific understanding of lightning and thunderstorms, which frequently pose a threat to life, property, and infrastructure in the state due to its mountainous terrain and monsoon-driven wind circulation, they said.

NRSC has already installed advanced equipment and sensors at the university, with preliminary data collected and tested for quality, the officials said.

RGU Registrar N T Rikam said the collaboration reflects the university's continued efforts to explore new frontiers in science and technology, and that NRSC's involvement would help bring greater clarity in understanding lightning patterns in the region.
