
Udhagamandalam (Tamil Nadu), March 5 A tense situation prevailed at the defence factory in Aruvankadu, in the Nilgiris district, after the factory authorities sounded an emergency siren on Thursday, asking workers to immediately leave the premises.
Officials also used the public address system to instruct workers to evacuate the premises, according to a police official.
While the exact reason for sounding the emergency siren is not known, police officials said that representatives from the army and a police team rushed to the Cordite factory in Aruvankadu to investigate.
The premier defence unit, specializing in producing propellants for military ammunition and tanks, is located between Coonoor and Ooty.
