
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that approximately 1,024 new trains have been introduced across the country since the COVID period.
Responding to supplementary questions during Question Hour in the Lok Sabha today, Mr. Vaishnaw added that, in addition, 4,651 new coaches have also been added to existing trains. He stated that the Railways serves the poor and middle class, and the government is focusing on providing them with smooth and affordable transportation services. The Minister noted that 78 percent of the total train seats are in the general and sleeper categories.
Mr. Vaishnaw informed that the Railways has implemented several measures to prevent fraud and ensure seamless ticket booking for genuine users. He stated that over three crore fake IRCTC accounts have been deactivated.
Regarding railway safety, the Minister said that due to the strong focus on safety, train accidents have been reduced by 90 percent. Mr. Vaishnaw informed that an investment of 1.20 lakh crore rupees is being made towards safety.
