
Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia), April 3 Nikhat Zareen, Priya, and Preeti Pawar qualified for the semifinals of the Asian Boxing Championships, guaranteeing India at least three medals in this event on Friday.
Nikhat dominated the women's 51kg quarterfinal, securing a 3-0 victory over Xian Baguhin from the Philippines through a referee-stopped contest (RSC) in a commanding performance.
Nikhat will face a tough challenge in the semifinals against China's Wu Yu, who won the gold medal at the 2024 Olympics.
In the women's 60kg category, Priya demonstrated composure and maturity to defeat China's Chengyu Yang 4-1. Priya will compete against Mongolia's Namuun Monkhor for a spot in the final.
Meanwhile, in the women's 54kg category, Preeti, the gold medallist at the World Boxing Cup Finals, delivered one of the most clinical performances of the day.
Preeti defeated Mongolia's Mungun Tsetseg with a 5-0 unanimous decision, setting up a semifinal contest against Im Aeji.
In the men's 70kg category, Deepak was eliminated after a 1-4 loss to Jordan's Zeyad Eashash in the quarterfinals.
