Dibrugarh, March 20 The president of the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), Lurinjyoti Gogoi, filed his nomination for the Khowang constituency in Dibrugarh district on Friday.
Gogoi had unsuccessfully contested the 2021 assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, with the AJP yet to gain a foothold in either the assembly or Parliament.
The AJP is part of a six-party alliance for the April 9 assembly elections, which include the Congress, Raijor Dal, and CPI(M).
Gogoi also led a procession of alliance members and leaders through the streets of Dibrugarh town, apparently demonstrating the unity of the opposition parties.
Speaking to reporters after submitting his nomination, Gogoi expressed confidence in winning the seat from the ruling BJP.
"My objective is to be the voice of the people of the constituency and the people of the state. I seek their blessings," the AJP chief said.
Polling for the 126-member assembly will be held on April 9, and vote counting will take place on May 4.
