Assam Elections: Counting of Votes to Begin May 4th.webp

Assam Assembly elections conclude with high voter turnout

Voting for the Assam Legislative Assembly elections has concluded peacefully. Polling was held yesterday across 31,490 polling stations under tight security arrangements.

An overall voter turnout of 85.91% was recorded. The fate of a total of 722 candidates is now determined by the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). The election, conducted in a single phase, saw participation from 2,50,54,463 registered voters.

Counting of votes will take place on May 4. Notably, the South Salmara Mankachar district recorded the highest voter turnout at 95.61%.

Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that Assamese villages and Hindi-speaking communities voted in proportion to minority groups. He observed increased enthusiasm among local and Hindu voters this time, noting that such participation was previously more visible in minority-dominated areas.
