
March 7, New Delhi – In a major anti-drug operation, the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Cachar Police, apprehended five individuals and seized approximately ₹3.5 crore worth of heroin in Cachar.
The operation was based on specific intelligence regarding the trafficking of narcotics in the region. Acting on this information, the joint team intercepted the suspects at Burunga Village near Kalain while they were transporting the contraband with plans to cross into Meghalaya.
During the operation, five individuals involved in the trafficking network were apprehended. Two vehicles used for transporting the heroin were seized, along with several mobile phones. The accused, along with the seized vehicles and devices, have been handed over to the Cachar Police for further investigation and legal proceedings. Officials stated that the timely operation foiled a major smuggling attempt and dealt a significant blow to drug trafficking networks in the region.
The Assam Rifles has been leading intelligence-based anti-drug missions across the Northeast, aiming to dismantle narcotics networks. This latest seizure marks another milestone in ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and safeguard communities in the region.
