Jaipur, March 10 The Rajasthan Assembly on Tuesday witnessed uproar over the increase in LPG cylinder prices as opposition Congress MLAs demanded that the state government provide subsidies to consumers and subsequently walked out of the House in protest.
Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, Congress member Amit Chachan said the government has put a burden on the common man through inflation.
He said domestic LPG cylinders have become Rs 60 more expensive and demanded that the government provide relief to the public by subsidizing them.
Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully urged the government to respond, claiming that rising prices of commercial cylinders were forcing hotels and restaurants to shut and causing hardship to poor families.
The opposition members created uproar on the matter and staged a walkout.
Earlier, Jully had, during the Question Hour, asked whether the government would provide subsidies on the increased cylinder prices to help residents of Rajasthan.
State Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sumit Godara said the state government is committed to ensuring LPG availability and will not allow any shortages.
Godara informed the House that over 61 lakh families in Rajasthan are currently benefiting from the Chief Minister's LPG Subsidy Scheme.
Under the National Food Security Act, more than 1.08 crore families are covered, of which nearly 68.96 lakh families have linked their LPG ID under the scheme.
The minister said that by December 2025, around 5.68 crore cylinders had been refilled under the scheme, with the state government providing Rs 1,051 crore in subsidy.
During the Question Hour, while replying to a question on another issue, Forest Minister Sanjay Sharma said that the state government is processing follow-up actions after the National Tiger Conservation Authority approved the Kumbhalgarh Tiger Reserve project in August 2023.
He said that declaring the area a tiger reserve is expected to boost tourism and create employment opportunities for local villagers. Two new safari routes have been proposed in Kumbhalgarh and Todgarh-Raoli sanctuaries to enhance tourism.
The budget session of the assembly began on January 28 and the House was adjourned sine die today.
