Assembly Hall Revived: Telangana Legislators Inaugurate Building.webp

Hyderabad, March 8 Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy inaugurated the renovated assembly hall, dating back to the Nizam era, within the state legislature premises here on Sunday. This hall will now serve as the legislative council.

Legislative Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy, and several state ministers were present at the event.

Following their victory in December 2023, the Congress party prioritized the renovation of this building.

The legislative council has been operating from a different building within the legislature premises.

This historic building was known as the Town Hall during the Nizam's rule. Construction began in 1905 and was completed in 1913.

The building is highly regarded by heritage enthusiasts as a fine example of Indo-Saracenic architecture.

This historic building served as the Legislative Assembly for the undivided Andhra Pradesh until the mid-1980s.

A new building was constructed behind the historic building in the mid-1980s to accommodate all 294 MLAs in undivided Andhra Pradesh, where the assembly began to function.

The Telangana Legislative Assembly operates in the new building constructed in the 1980s.

The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, after the bifurcation of undivided Andhra Pradesh in 2014, also operated in the historic building for about two years.
